The Truth About Cleaning Wipes

Lesson of the Day:
READ THE LABEL & FINE PRINT

Until recently, I was still using cleaning wipes for some of my bathroom cleaning.  I would purchase whichever wipes were on sale….Lysol, Clorox, or Up & Up and use them for cleaning the toilet seat and the outside of the bowl.  I had been told by another Norwex independent consultant that the actual instructions on the these wipes were worth reading again.  So tonight, I did just that.  Here is where the shock sets in!  There is no way that these wipes can clean anything!

Here is what you will actually find on the back of the container:

'"To Clean:  Use fresh wipe on surface.  Repeat for stubborn stains.  To Disinfect:  Pre-clean surface.  Use enough fresh wipes to thoroughly wet surface.  Surface must remain remain wet for the entire contact time.  Allow to remain wet for 10 minutes.  Allow surface to air dry.  Toss dirty wipe away.  Rinse all food contact surfaces and toys with water after use.  Not intended for person hygiene.  Not recommended for unfinished wood, unwaxed vinyl, or marble surfaces."

WHAT?!?!  I thought that these wipes were supposed to be the quick fix for cleaning.  Here are just a few of the many things that went through my mind while I was reading this aloud to my husband.
  1. Why am I pre-cleaning the surface before I am cleaning the surface?  I thought that I bought the wipes to use for cleaning.
  2. How am I supposed to keep the surface wet for 10 minutes?  Have you used these wipes?  The surface dries in about 45 seconds!  Should I fill a spray bottle with water and stand in the kitchen and the bathrooms spraying all of the surfaces for 10 minutes?  That seems like a good use of time!
  3. How is this product allowed to say that is kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria?
  4. Why have I been using this product on the toilet?  That is the item in the house with the most germs!
  5. Why do I have to wipe off my counter tops after they dry?
I can tell one thing for sure, I cannot keep up with all of these steps!  I am going to stick to the directions for my Norwex enviro cloth!  Wet, ring, fold, use, and repeat!!  Weird, I don't have any questions for that label :)
