Cleaning Water Rings from Wood Furniture

I have to share this crazy idea that Norwex posted on Facebook today!  They say that toothpaste, when used with a Norwex enviro cloth, will remove water rings from wood furniture!  To try this out, get your Norwex cloth damp, use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, and rub it into the stain.  Wipe any of the excess off, and repeat.  Man, I thought  I was clever getting stains out of purses!  When it comes to great info like this, I am happy to be shown up!

I am going to try this over the weekend to a table I have.  The water ring has been there for years, and I usually cover the the table with a cloth.  I will take a before and after and share the results.

I tried this out this morning on a table that has gone through some serious use in the last few decades, and I am really impressed with the results!  The table means a lot to me because it belonged to my grandmother, and we used to sit for hours and play gin rummy!

Here are some pictures of the results I got.  The left hand side has a visible stain and the right side is after I cleaned it.

Enviro Cloth Saves the Day!

I have a really bad habit of not screwing the cap back on items!  It drives my husband crazy.  The toothpaste, cap not screwed on.  The orange juice cap, don't shake it, the top is limey not screwed on tight.  It's a flaw of mine, and I have accepted it.  Well, I accepted it until Blistex and hand lotion met the bottom of cute little Marc Jacobs (for Target) pouch and left hard white gunk!  That is the picture on the left had side.  I was going to throw the pouch away, I got it on sale and I didn't that that this would ever come out.  As I walked to the trash can, I saw my enviro cloth sitting sweetly on my counter.  I got the crazy idea to try to take out the stain with the Norwex cloth.  What is the worst that could happen?  Check out my results below, on the right side.  The white all came out.  You can briefly see where the stain had once been if you look closely, but that is to be expected with a stain that sat for almost a year.

This system worked great on my vinyl Burberry purse as well.  Unfortunately, the stains weren't dark enough to show up in pictures.  It removed all of the day to day dirt that gets on our purses.  I tried the bottom out first just in case the enviro cloth wasn't safe for the material of the purse.

The Truth About Cleaning Wipes

Lesson of the Day:
READ THE LABEL & FINE PRINT

Until recently, I was still using cleaning wipes for some of my bathroom cleaning.  I would purchase whichever wipes were on sale….Lysol, Clorox, or Up & Up and use them for cleaning the toilet seat and the outside of the bowl.  I had been told by another Norwex independent consultant that the actual instructions on the these wipes were worth reading again.  So tonight, I did just that.  Here is where the shock sets in!  There is no way that these wipes can clean anything!

Here is what you will actually find on the back of the container:

'"To Clean:  Use fresh wipe on surface.  Repeat for stubborn stains.  To Disinfect:  Pre-clean surface.  Use enough fresh wipes to thoroughly wet surface.  Surface must remain remain wet for the entire contact time.  Allow to remain wet for 10 minutes.  Allow surface to air dry.  Toss dirty wipe away.  Rinse all food contact surfaces and toys with water after use.  Not intended for person hygiene.  Not recommended for unfinished wood, unwaxed vinyl, or marble surfaces."

WHAT?!?!  I thought that these wipes were supposed to be the quick fix for cleaning.  Here are just a few of the many things that went through my mind while I was reading this aloud to my husband.
  1. Why am I pre-cleaning the surface before I am cleaning the surface?  I thought that I bought the wipes to use for cleaning.
  2. How am I supposed to keep the surface wet for 10 minutes?  Have you used these wipes?  The surface dries in about 45 seconds!  Should I fill a spray bottle with water and stand in the kitchen and the bathrooms spraying all of the surfaces for 10 minutes?  That seems like a good use of time!
  3. How is this product allowed to say that is kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria?
  4. Why have I been using this product on the toilet?  That is the item in the house with the most germs!
  5. Why do I have to wipe off my counter tops after they dry?
I can tell one thing for sure, I cannot keep up with all of these steps!  I am going to stick to the directions for my Norwex enviro cloth!  Wet, ring, fold, use, and repeat!!  Weird, I don't have any questions for that label :)
